Spinel compiles Ruby source code into standalone native executables. It performs whole-program type inference and generates optimized C code, achieving significant speedups over CRuby. The compiler is a single self-contained C binary: it parses Ruby (via libprism), infers types across the whole program, emits C, and invokes the system cc to produce a native executable -- no Ruby runtime and no chained helper binaries at compile time.
